advice to learn to mix and dj! help!

Can you give a young grasshopper advice. I love music and want learn to mix and eventually learn how to produce music and rhythms. I heard Ableton is an excellent program and there are classes, I'm looking to enroll in to learn the software. Should I go with CDJ-800 or CDJ-400 CD? I guess a good 2-channel mixer would Pioneer DJM-600 …..? My cousin is very old school and insists that I should learn a good set of vinyl … I do not understand the reasoning behind him because I have about 60gigs of high quality mp3 tracks that I think I would have more fun with this. He said that earth tones are not on an installation-analog. What is your opinion on this? Should I take her advice?

CDJ-400 would be perfect for you. You can sell it and upgrade to the industry standard CDJ-1000 later. The DJM-600 will be ok for you. You do not need to learn a good set of vinyl. Many DJs CD play today. But in your case you have MP3, high quality and on big club speakers, the difference is significant between 320 kbps MP3 and WAV. Overall, the analog music vinyl does sound more than once. That being said, most people do not want to hear these differences. You do not need to register in a class to learn how to use Ableton. Most of us understand ourselves. Ableton has a good tutorial that should start jumping on the essentials. What I can not emphasize enough is practice, practice, practice. Get some practice in whenever you can and, possibly, new tricks should come you.
